Soliloquy - On Circles

On Circles

You’ve traveled this far
You’ve a long way to go
The path lies ahead
And like the one you came by
The one which exists no more
This path will pass through places
You’ve been to before
You may want to walk through again
Right up your old wrongs
Relive your past glories
Or take a futile detour
Old places dot these too

There’s no map you can use
Except the one in your heart
Be guided by it and face
Whatever the path shows up
Beware that a tempting detour
Is just a way to while your time
And spend it on things trivial
While that those you avoid
Await with unsatiated hunger
Await with a burning pyre
For your imminent arrival

You’ve burnt many bridges
As you sauntered past burning hearts
Ignited by your malice
Fueled by your cowardice
To do the right thing
In the face of your enemy
In the face of your ego
Pinning and twisting
The innocence of your life
To suit the fabled wayfarer
You were to become

All that awaits you now
Is all that you left behind
And strewn amidst these you’ll find
Blossoms of a virgin kind
But you will not see them
No, not yet for sure
For your vision is clouded
For your mind is afraid
Of old unjust wasteful conquests
And old engagements that await
When your path turns a full circle

Have some courage my friend
For very few venture this far
Undo all wrongs but it wont
Unwind time lost chasing
The complete logical end
Of fables you left midway
But then you will lay in peace
Full of love and full of you
Full of stories meant for few
Not the lost ones who drift
But the ones who dare to endure

All, for the peace of a finished circle

  1. We go back full circle as life slowly closes down on us. We relive the deeds, the mistakes, the sins, and the gains....we relive them all....But can hardly undo what has been done. The only way to redemption is perhaps acceptance of who we are, who we were, and what we did....Beautiful poem Kapil.

    1. the closure of the open circles is after all an acceptance of one's identity ... :)
